Looking to dye your own project? Have some linens to refresh? An old loved shirt you want to give a new life? Want to make custom hand made gifts for folks in your life? Fantastic news: BYOS is the party for you!
With over a year running this event and a combined 20+ years of experience, Aaron and Nathaniel will be able to talk you through getting a beautiful result and executing the project of your blue sky dreams. The shop carries a whole host of blanks ranging from shirts of all sizes, tea towels, bandanas, a variety of yarns, and silk scarves, but also any natural fiber goods should be able to dye beautifully.
This event is great for folks totally new to craft and folks with more experience who just don't want to deal with the set up and tear down of having an indigo vat.
The logistics
Time Commitment: 2 hours
Structure: We'll open with a primer on how indigo works and the vat set up we have, we'll touch base with everyone as they come in to see the projects they have in mind, and then we'll be able to get set up to work together to achieve the shads of blue and patterns everyone has in mind.
What to bring:
Any clean natural fiber goods should be able to take the color well, but cotton, linen, and silk are notable easy to work with. If you want to give anything a good solid wash before bringing it in any oils can resist the dye taking, but we'll alos have detergents for a pre-soak.
If you want to pick up blanks we carry, you can either add them to your cart now and we'll have them set aside for you or we can get you checked out in the space
What you leave with:
If you bring your own goods we'll be able to send them out the door with your ready to launder and if you come empty handed we can get you set up with a variety of great things to dye
Disclaimers:
The indigo vats do have the ability to temporarily stain your skin and nails and permanently stain any natural fibers. So while we do find it pretty easy to keep yourself and your clothes dry we recommend wearing dark colors or an apron, we do have gloves available for anyone interested, and we can even do the dunking for you if you'd like to stay extra cautious.
Our events unless indicated otherwise are intended for adults, teens (14+) would be welcome but may feel out of their comfort level so we recommend bringing a parent or guardian.
